“Attention is the beginning of devotion.” —Mary Oliver
As an abstract artist originally from Virginia, I was trained in graphic design from Virginia Commonwealth University, which means I spent years learning how to make things orderly before deciding I prefer when they’re not.
Before focusing fully on my studio practice, I worked with Ann Connelly Fine Art, The Guest House Studio, and in creative marketing for Rebecca Atwood Designs. I’ve seen the art world from a few different angles, and am captivated by the way color and composition shape a space.
Now I live in my favorite place, Charleston, SC with my husband, Andrew, our miracle baby, Elwood, our frisky black lab, River, and queen-of-the-land kitty, Roux.
I work intuitively across canvas, wood panel, and paper—building layers, reacting, covering things up, bringing them back, and generally trying to stay one step behind the painting so it can surprise me. I like that balance of control and accident, where things start behaving in ways I didn’t fully plan.
My goal is to make work that shifts the feeling of a space—quietly, but noticeably. Something that makes you pause for a half a second longer than you meant to, and maybe notice the color of the light in the room afterward.
